Start point

Presthope Car Park, TF13 6DQ

Stage 1

Follow the pink waymarkers along the Lea Quarry Walk. Starting at the rear right-hand corner of the car park, take the surfaced path past the viewpoint overlooking Ape Dale. Continue straight on through the woods, along the crest up and down a short flights of steps. Keep following the path through the woods.

Stage 2

When you come to a junction, continue straight and you'll emerge from the dense woodland and look out at the deep limestone workings of disused Lea Quarry on the right.

Stage 3

Continue straight along the crest till you come to a path on the left which turns sharply, take the steep path down into the woods.

Stage 4

At the bottom of the slope turn left onto a wide stoned track and follow the track through an area of Beech woodland. In spring, these slopes are carpeted in aromatic wild garlic and in Autumn the leaves turn a beautiful copper colour.

Stage 5

Continue straight until you reach a junction where ancient yew trees (estimated at 600 years old) line the ancient Holloway. Keep left and take the track up the slope beneath the yew trees bending left again at the top as you reach the car park.
