Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is a vibrant 200-year-old theatre designed by William Wilkins. Join us for a unique tour as we head back in time to discover the trials and triumphs of the last remaining working Regency playhouse in the country.

Led by our enthusiastic team of Tour Guides, you’ll travel around the theatre, taking in the building and all of its history, from front of house to behind the scenes. Step on up and into the spotlight where the likes of Ian McKellan CBE, Dame Judi Dench DBE, Sir Peter Hall CBE and many more have gone before you. You’ll even get to tread the boards yourself!
To attend a tour, you must book in advance.
Tours are approx. 1 hour 30 minutes.
We also offer ‘step free’ tours for those with mobility issues.
We are sorry to say that the Greene King Car Park will be unavailable during tours.

National Trust Members Tickets for National Trust Members are £6. If booking a National Trust Member ticket, please add your unique National Trust Number to your account via ‘View Account’ at the top of this page. You will also need to bring your National Trust card with you on the day. Failure to do so could result in you being charged full price for the tour. Private Tours If you would be interested in booking a private tour please contact booking@theatreroyal.org Our private tours follow the same route as our public tours and suitable for a group between 10 – 30 people. Please note we are a working theatre so may not always be able to accommodate your preferred date.
