'Heritage Makes': Sarah Tyssen

Meet Sarah Tyssen, one of the six prize winners selected from Inspired by Standen: The Future of Arts & Crafts. Sarah designs scarves, shawls and blankets on a 16-shaft hand loom in her Surrey workshop.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Sarah works closely with a Yorkshire mill to produce her designs in very small, limited-edition runs. Her prize-winning Chevrons Design Woven Blanket is made from Australian Merino lambswool and reflects the Arts and Crafts principle that everyday objects should be both functional and beautiful. Sarah’s connection to the movement is especially fitting: she works in an Arts and Crafts weaving workshop designed by F.W. Troup in 1896 for the Peasant Industries in Haslemere.
