The estate ‘Pump House’ is not something visitors know about, but come across very regularly. It is a truly intriguing part of Dinefwrs history. The water wheel housed within its walls is likely from the late 19th C or early 20th C. The wheel and the pumps would have been used to supply washing water to the house.
The old cast iron water wheel and Bamford pump achieve a lift of 66 metres over a distance of 520 metres - quite a feat for equipment of their age! The ‘Pump House’ and its contents are lovingly cared for by our estate volunteers, without whom we would be well and truly lost without.
Their combined expertise have refurbished several asepcts of the structure, including a new floor, leather washers for the engines and many other skilled tasks.
Drop in and see how it works, what we do to look after it, and find out how special it is.
