Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or remembering a loved one, a commemorative donation is a wonderful way to mark life's most important moments. Visitors often ask if they can dedicate a tree in the gardens in honour of a special occasion like a milestone birthday, marriage, or birth, or in memory of a loved one. Read on to find out more about dedicating a tree at Dyffryn.

Commemorative planting

We plant trees twice a year – in the spring and autumn. If you’d like to dedicate a tree you’ll receive a list of available saplings, which vary depending on the time of year and the planting plans for our Arboretum.

Once dedicated you will receive a commemorative pack with a specially commissioned map marking the place of your tree and its coordinates. We cannot provide a dedicated plaque, however we will add a dedication message to your tree on our National Trust plant data base, Iris. This dedication will remain in place permanently.

Because of the changeable nature of weather and ground conditions we’re unable to invite you to be present when your tree is planted but we’ll let you know when it’s in the ground and ready to be visited. We’ll also send you a picture of the tree in situ.

If you would like to dedicate a tree please email dyffryn@nationaltrust.org.uk to enquire about prices and get the process started. It doesn’t need to be spring or autumn to get in touch, the sooner you contact us, the sooner we can let you know which trees are available or put your name on the waiting list if our planting has already been dedicated for the coming season.

By dedicating a tree at Dyffryn Gardens, not only are you honouring a special occasion or person, you’re also supporting the vital work we do at Dyffryn to develop and conserve these beautiful gardens for decades and generations to come. Commemorative planting is also a dedication to everyone’s future - trees are one of our best natural defences against climate change, they clean the air we breathe, lock up carbon as they grow and provide homes for wildlife. What a truly wonderful way to celebrate life’s important moments.
