National Trust Cymru is celebrating Calan Gaeaf across Wales this Autumn. Calan Gaeaf marks the beginning of winter in the Welsh calendar (1 November). Traditionally, the night before, Nos Galan Gaeaf (31 October) is said to be a time where the veil between our world and the Otherworld is at its thinnest - meaning mystical creatures can roam the earth.
Dyffryn Gardens is marking the turn of the season with a family trail. Experience the magic of the Autumnal gardens and and step into the world of the Tylwyth Teg - the fae of Welsh folklore.
Keep your eyes open as you explore, as you might spot some fairy doors tucked away in the gardens, stumble upon some giant mushrooms or discover somewhere the Tylwyth Teg might call home.
Along the way, there are games to play, mythical stories to tell and plenty of opportunities for little imaginations to run wild. So wrap up warm, bring your curiosity and see what magical discoveries await at Dyffryn Gardens this Autumn.

- Accessibility
We are a largely accessible site with blue badge parking, accessible toilets at regular intervals and step-free routes around the garden. We have a mobility scooter and wheelchairs available for hire (free of charge), we recommend pre-booking these to ensure availability. We'll also have a volunteer-run buggy to take visitors round the gardens.

- Suitability for children
This trail is suitable for everyone.
- What to bring and wear
Dyffryn Gardens is an outdoor visit, so dress for the Welsh weather and wear comfy shoes that you don't mind getting a bit muddy.
- Other
We welcome dogs at Dyffryn - we ask that they're kept on a short lead at all times. We also sell dog treats in our shop and café, including doggy ice cream.
