Remembrance at Tredegar House
A quiet space for reflection, where thousands of poppies honour generations of service and remembrance.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
This autumn, the handcrafted display of 4,000 poppies returns to the stables at Tredegar House, offering a space for reflection and remembrance. At its heart stands the willow sculpture of the heroic war horse Sir Briggs, created by local weaver Sarah Hatton. Sir Briggs gallantly carried Lord Tredegar, Godfrey Morgan, through the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in 1854 and both survived the infamous battle.
The resident sculpture is adorned with thousands of handmade poppies, created by staff, volunteers and visitors. The display honours stories of service and sacrifice that span generations.
This year also marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War, and new interpretation will explore Tredegar House’s role as a base for American GIs during the conflict. Together, these layers of history come together in a moving tribute that invites everyone to pause, remember and connect with the stories woven into the fabric of this special place.
