Baddesley Bites - Breakfast Talks - The Escaped Nun
We are holding a variety of talks in the Restaurant at Baddesley Clinton exploring different aspects of Baddesley's history from treason to high society.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
In April 1870 Sr Agnes crept away from prayer in the chapel and climbed over the wall of Baddesley Clinton convent hoping to make her way to the railway station.
Within days her escape was reported in newspapers across the country and was linked with a campaign by a local MP. An examination of this event provides a fascinating insight into contemporary attitudes to Catholicism and the treatment of mental illness in Victorian England.
