Accessibility at Coventry Charterhouse

Charterhouse is committed to being open and accessible to all visitors. Although the historic house and gardens pose certain challenges to accessibility, we are actively taking measures to ensure that as many individuals as possible can access the estate, including the house, garden, and its rich history. This page outlines how you can maximize your visit.
Efforts are continuously being made to improve visitor experiences and recognize the variety of needs visitors may have. Feedback and suggestions are appreciated and can be sent to charterhouse@nationaltrust.org.uk
Access for people with disabilities
The National Trust has a variety of ways people can access places free or at discounted admission rates. You can find out more about these cards on our Access for Everyone page.
Making your visit easier
Available at Charterhouse for your visit you will find:
- Parking – Several accessible parking spaces can be found in the main car park for Blue Badge holders or anyone with mobility requirements.
-
Visual impairment – Large print guides are available at Visitor Reception on request.
- Assistance dogs – Are welcome in all areas and buildings at Charterhouse. Dog water bowls are available around the main buildings.
- Wheelchairs – There are wheelchairs for visitors to borrow. Talk to our Visitor Reception staff if you'd like to borrow one for your visit when you arrive.
- Surfaces and terrain – There are flat gravel paths around the gardens, but a few small steps in some areas. There are accessible routes in most of the gardens - ask a member of the team if you need help.
- Wider parkland - There are gravel and mown grass paths which can be uneven in places. These paths are accessible for suitably designed child's pushchairs but may be heavy-going for a wheelchair depending on recent wet weather conditions. Please ask for advice in Visitor Reception on your way in.
- Toilets – Accessible toilets are on the ground floor and second floor. A lift is available.
- Ramps – There is an external ramp for access to the garden from the Café or ground floor access from within the building.
- The house – The ground floor rooms are open and accessible for wheelchairs. We ask that pushchairs are left to one side during your visit.
