Coventry residents with a Go CV+ card are being welcomed to Coventry Charterhouse to visit for free, making it easier to access heritage, green space and nature in the city centre.
Working alongside Coventry City Council, the National Trust is making the offer available for the first time since taking on the management of Coventry Charterhouse in 2025. The initiative opens up the historic site to thousands of local people, with more than 8,860 Go CV+ cardholders across Coventry now able to benefit.
The move reflects a wider commitment to making the Charterhouse a welcoming place for the people of Coventry. It builds on a growing programme of community-led activities developed with organisations, artists, schools and community groups, offering an ongoing calendar of events, workshops and activities for locals.
Coventry Charterhouse is a 14th-century former monastery founded in 1381, once home to a silent order of monks who lived peacefully off the land. It sits within Coventry’s Heritage Park, one mile from the city centre, offering a peaceful place to explore the city’s history and spend time away from the bustle of everyday life.
Free entry for Go CV+ cardholders means residents can explore the historic building and walled garden at no cost, while also enjoying the café and the surrounding wildlife-rich grounds.
Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “Coventry Charterhouse is a brilliant attraction and has added to Coventry’s rich cultural heritage for many years. It’s great to be able to make the venue more accessible for Coventry residents to attend.
“We’d love for more citizens from all backgrounds to get a chance to visit, that’s why we’re delighted to be working with the fantastic National Trust so anyone who is a Go CV+ member will be able to enter for free.”
Niamh Carton, Programming & Partnerships Manager at Coventry Charterhouse, said:
“We want people in Coventry to feel that Coventry Charterhouse is for them. Working alongside Coventry City Council allows us to open the doors wider and build a strong community base here. It’s a peaceful place where people can slow down, enjoy nature and connect with the city’s history, right on their doorstep.”
Go CV is Coventry City Council’s free scheme for residents, providing access to offers on events, activities and attractions across the city, as well as savings from local businesses. Go CV+ is part of the scheme and allows eligible residents to access additional offers and discounts.
