A Century of Upton
2027 marks 100 years since 2nd Viscount Bearsted bought the Upton estate and began creating the house, gardens and collection we see today. Join us in the Squash Court Gallery as we celebrate with a display from Upton's archives.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
From 1927, the house was transformed internally and externally to provide a country retreat and to display one of the most significant art collections assembled in the 20th century. Outside, the pioneering English garden designer, Kitty Lloyd Jones, reimagined the gardens in consultation with Lady Bearsted. This exhibition will showcase the photographs the family assembled recording the remodelling works over the following 21 years. Explore the story of Upton's modern-day creation as part of your visit today.
