The Avebury Papers is a four-year Arts and Humanities Research Council funded project to digitise, explore, and share the multimedia archive of Avebury’s Neolithic origins and its subsequent life-history.
Following an open call for artists in September 2024, two were chosen to explore the Avebury archive and create an artistic response to the wealth of stories and information contained within.
Gayle Chong Kwan is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist and academic, of Chinese/Mauritian and Scottish heritage, whose work is exhibited internationally in galleries and the public realm.
Kialy Tihngang is a multidisciplinary Glasgow-based visual artist, working in sculpture, video, textiles, animation and photomontage, often in collaboration with performers and musicians, involving elaborate handmade sets, costumes and props.
Visit the atmospheric threshing barn at Avebury between Saturday 5 July and Tuesday 22 July to experience these artists’ responses to the Avebury archive through two video creations.
The Avebury Papers is a collaboration between University of Bristol, the University of York, the National Trust, and the Archaeology Data Service, with support from Historic England and English Heritage. Find out more about the project at www.aveburypapers.org.
