Accessibility at Hanbury Hall

Learn more about the accessibility features at Hanbury Hall, including our pre-bookable mobility vehicles and wheelchairs, the Access Vehicle, and accessible facilities including toilets and ramped access. The historic Hall and other buildings we care for present challenges in creating access for all, but we are working to ensure Hanbury Hall is accessible to as many visitors as possible. Here you’ll find information about how to make the most of your visit.

Arrival and parking

  • There is designated accessible parking at Hanbury Hall. There are 23 designated spaces for visitors with access needs located approx. 45 metres from visitor reception. These are indicated by signs.
  • There are small benches and seats available at Visitor Reception.

Moving around site

  • The Hall is approx. 180 metres from the visitor reception building.
  • The path up to the Hall from visitor reception is a mixture of tarmac drive, gravel forecourt and slabbed frontage.
  • The garden is mainly level with surfaces varying between gravel and grass.
  • There are benches located throughout the formal gardens and parkland.

The Access Vehicle

  • The Access Vehicle runs daily from 10am – 4pm and is driven by friendly volunteers on hand to offer any assistance or visiting information.
  • The Access Vehicle can take visitors to and from the car park or Visitor Reception to the front of the Hall, the entrance to the formal gardens, and the Stableyard.

Mobility scooters and wheelchairs

  • We have two manual wheelchairs, one personal mobility vehicle (PMV), and a larger mobility scooter (TGA / Tramper) available for loan free of charge.
  • These must be pre-booked ahead of your visit by phoning the property office on 01527 821214.

Access ramps

  • There is ramped or level access into the majority of buildings onsite, including visitor reception, the Hall, the Stables Café, the Courtyard Kitchen, and the second – hand bookshop.
  • There is no ramped or level access into the Long Gallery.

Moving around the Hall

  • The front door of the house can be opened so it is wide enough for a manual wheelchair or small mobility vehicle. The door opens inwards and is not power assisted, but a team member can help with opening the door.
  • Small mobility vehicles are permitted on the ground floor, but where possible we ask people to transfer to a manual wheelchair.
  • There is a virtual tour of the first floor which can be watched on a tablet located at the entrance to the Hall. Please ask a member of staff to show you the tour.
  • Access to the first floor is by stairs and mobility vehicles are not permitted. There is no lift at the property.
  • There is a quiet room on the first floor called the Green Chamber which contains comfortable sofas and chairs for visitors to use.

The Courtyard Kitchen

  • Dignity cutlery and straws are available to use in our restaurant, the Courtyard Kitchen.
  • All seating in the Courtyard Kitchen is suitable for wheelchairs to sit comfortably at.
  • There is a ramp access to the entrance of the Courtyard Kitchen, with power assisted doors and there is a route throughout the indoor seating area for wheelchair access.

Facilities

Accessible toilets

  • There is an accessible toilet in the Stableyard and in the Courtyard Kitchen. The accessible toilet in the Stableyard also has a baby change.

Induction loops

  • Induction loops are located in Visitor Reception, in the Stables Café and in the Courtyard Kitchen.

Property maps

  • Maps of the property and site facilities are available to pick up at Visitor Reception.

Assistance animals are permitted in all areas of the site.
