Skell Valley Voices Exhibition
Explore the histories of the Skell Valley through stories from people that have lived and worked there.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Visit the Skell Valley Voices Exhibition in Fountains Mill. The exhibition is looking at themes of farming, working in the Skell valley, childhood days and the changes that residents have experienced in the weather, landscape and nature around them.
Working with oral history experts, the Skell Valley Project volunteers have recorded sixteen oral history interviews which form the basis for this exhibition. Curated by the West Yorkshire Archive Service these oral histories are presented alongside beautiful portrait photographs taken by Joanne Coates and historic pieces from the archive collection.
To bring these stories to life, alongside the exhibition there is the opportunity to engage with an interactive Projection Augmented Relief Model (PARM) developed by the University of Nottingham School of Geography and School of English with oral history extracts and illustrated by records from the North Yorkshire County Record Office.
This exhibition is part of the Skell Valley Project and is open from 12 noon on 21 September in Fountains Mill. It is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
