Skell Valley Project: River dipping

Come along to see what you can find in and around the River Skell with help from the Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust team.

We'll have nets, trays and identification cards for you to use but please bring some clean wellies. You may need to wait or come back later if it's really busy. This drop in river dipping activity is supported by the lottery funded Skell Valley Project.

Meeting point

Head to the warming room in the abbey ruins. There is level access to the warming room through the cellarium.

What to bring and wear

We're an outdoor site with steep hills and areas of uneven ground - please wear sturdy shoes (or clean wellies for river dipping).

Other

This is a weather dependant activity so it may be cancelled at short notice or it may not be safe to let you enter the river. If you are unable to make this activity then have a go yourself with the Skell Valley Project Watery Wildlife Resource Pack. This pack contains all the information you need to run your own river dipping session. Its available on Nidderdale National Landscape’s website or to borrow from Ripon Library.
