Come meet our Rangers for a sphagnum propagation session at our nursery, making up plugs to plant on the moor, followed by a guided walk to learn more about our moorland restoration work and to help collect some more sphagnum moss for propagation.
Please bring suitable clothing and footwear. This walk will involve some very rough and wet terrain, we recommend sturdy waterproof boots. Please bring plenty to drink and snacks.

Older children (12+) accompanied by an adult are welcome.
- Meeting point
Meet at the NT estate office at The Old Goods Yard, HD7 6DH – We’ll then visit the moor on Bobus, just off Mount Road, to collect some sphagnum.
- What to bring and wear
Please bring suitable clothing and footwear. This walk will involve some very rough and wet terrain, we recommend sturdy waterproof boots. Please bring plenty to drink and snacks.
- Accessibility
Some steep climbs and some uneven terrain. The walk will be just approx. 1km return but partly off the main footpaths so it will be muddy.
- Other
Suggested donation of £3 which goes towards the moorland restoration work.
