Bluebells and Bicycles
Celebrate the May Bank Holiday with a day of fresh air and adventures on two wheels through the bluebell woods.
- Booking not needed
- Free event
Bring your bikes, pack a picnic, and make the most of our family-friendly cycle trails as they wind through the heart of the estate’s beautiful bluebell woods - now in full bloom. Whether you’re a beginner or a confident cyclist, there’s a trail just right for your pace.
Start your adventure from the car park and follow the signs towards the lake and the boathouse. Continue following the signs through Obelisk park and up to Obelisk Lodge where you will choose your route.
At this point you will find the start of two dedicated 1km bike-only loops: a gentle green trail perfect for little legs, and a twistier blue trail for a bit more adventure.
Enjoy your cycle through the woodland cycle paths which wind through the vibrant bluebells.
At the end of the trail, you'll find plenty of spots to stop, snack, and rest your legs.
Do another loop or head back towards the house and the stables courtyard where you can secure your bikes at the bike racks if you are heading on into the gardens or the house.
On Monday 5 May, join the Wakefield Cycle Forum on a short, guided cycle ride. These free guided rides start at 11am, 12:30pm and 2pm from the entrance to the Stables Courtyard. Borrow a bike from us on Monday if you need to (with thanks to WDCF).
The parkland and cycle trails are free for everyone to enjoy. Please note that a £5 parking fee applies. Members park for free.
