Bluebells and Bicycles: Trails and Guided Cycle

Celebrate the Early May Bank Holiday with a day of fresh air and adventures on two wheels through the bluebell woods.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event

Bring your bikes, pack a picnic and enjoy a springtime adventure along our family-friendly cycle trails as they wind through the bluebell woods. Whether you’re just finding your wheels or love a bit of speed, there’s a route to suit every rider.

Start your journey from the car park and follow the signed trail towards the lake and boathouse, continuing through Obelisk Park and up to Obelisk Lodge. From here, you can choose your route.

You’ll find two dedicated 1km bike-only loops: a gentle green trail, ideal for younger cyclists and beginners, and a twistier blue trail for those looking for a little more adventure.

At the end of the trail, there are plenty of peaceful spots to pause for a picnic, refuel with a snack or simply rest tired legs. You can loop back around again or head towards the house and Stables Courtyard, where bike racks are available if you’d like to explore the gardens or the house on foot.

Special event – Monday 4 May Join the Wakefield District Cycle Forum for a short, guided cycle ride through the parkland. Free guided rides start at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm from the entrance to the Stables Courtyard. Bikes can be borrowed from WDCF by emailing rides@cycling-wakefield.org.uk. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

The parkland and cycle trails are free for everyone to enjoy. Please note a £5 parking fee applies (free for National Trust members).
