Walk through time at Malham Tarn
Ever wondered what Malham Tarn was like in the past? How was it formed? Who has lived here? Explore with our volunteer walk leaders to learn about the history of this special place.

This moderately strenuous 7km walk will uncover some of the secrets of the past around Malham Tarn. From it's formation to more recent history, our volunteers have tales of glaciers, cave men, monks, drovers and more. You'll gain a better understanding of this amazing landscape and get fitter at the same time.
We'll mainly follow grassed paths and gravelly estate tracks with some short rougher sections. There are a couple of stiles to cross. The route is undulating with some steady uphill stretches and one steep downhill section on a grassy path. We will be going at a comfortable pace suited to the group members and we'll stop frequently to find out about things of interest and rest. There will be an opportunity to use the toilet, though please note there are no toilet facilities at the start of the walk.
There will be a lunch stop (please bring a packed lunch).
Meet at Watersinks car park at 10.00am for a 10.15am walk start.
Please note that there is limited phone signal in the area so download all the information you need before you set off.

The gradient is undulating with a some steady uphill stretches and one steep downhill section on a grassy path. We will walk at a comfortable pace suited to group members and will stop regularly. There is a toilet available about halfway round the route.

- Suitability for children
Not suitable for pushchairs. Children must be accompanied and able to walk 7km.
- What to bring and wear
Please wear warm and waterproof outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear suitable for walking on rough and wet ground. Bring a packed lunch and drink.

Well behaved dogs on leads welcome. Please check your email on the day, before travelling to the event in case we need to cancel due to poor weather or other factors.
