History of Waddesdon Manor

Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild bought the Waddesdon Estate, originally nothing but farmland, in 1874. He wanted a country retreat built in the style of a Loire châteaux and soon engaged the French architect Gabriel-Hippolyte Destailleur.
