Enjoy splendid views of Slieve Gallion on this path that runs along the perimeter of the estate marked by the great oaks and a ring of trees where the sawpit was once located.

Start:
Springhill House, OSNI grid ref: H866828
1
Walk towards the house and take the gate to the right. Then make your way towards the stone path called Sawpit hill walk. Admire the beautiful copper beech tree before you head down the path towards the pond, which is full of frogs - watch closely and you might see one.
2
The path winds through laurels which eventually opens out to a woodland on one side - the path runs parallel to the Coagh road. In spring enjoy the sight of bluebells and the smell of the wild garlic. Keep to the path at all times, during colder spells appropriate footwear would be advisable.
3
The path begins a steep slope which will gradually bring you towards the tower, once a corn mill. Look out for the concrete pads under the trees, the remains of the American GI’s World War 2 camp.
Corn Mill
The Corn Mill was built around 1731 and was originally a corn mill powered by wind. Corn would have been ground here to make flour for the house and estate.
4
When you reach the tower look down the beech walk, a beautiful avenue of beech trees. On a clear day you can see the Sperrin mountains and Slieve Gallion. Walk across the front of the tower and when entering the kissing gate ensure that you put the latch back on for other visitors.
Beech walk view
Take in the beautiful surroundings when you have reached the tower. Admire the stone work of Springhill and see the pavilions from a different angle.
5
Continue your walk and admire the beautiful carved seat, why not take a rest? The big and beautiful oaks that line the edge of the path mark the boundary of Springhill estate.
6
The walk will come to a gradual end through the display of rhododendrons, which are at their best in May/June, and into the ancient yew tree grove, part of the Great Forest of Ulster. The finish point is at the back of the house, where you can go into the garden or explore our costume museum.
