February half term at Ashridge

Two children running ahead of grandparents at Ashridge, Herts

There’s still a slight chill in air keeping hibernating creatures in their cosy beds. However, they sometimes wake up too early and get lost in the woods. Come to do our trail and craft from Monday 18 – Friday 22 February, 10am-3pm to help a sleepy hedgehog find his way back home.

Trail

Lots of animals on the estate have been curled up safely for the last couple of months to escape from the winter weather. However, one hedgehog has woken up too early from his slumber and has sleepily wandered far away from home.

By following this trail, you’ll be able to lead this tired little hedgehog back through the woods to his snug nest. Along the way, learn more about other hibernators at Ashridge. Just make sure you don’t wake them up - we don’t want more of creatures to get lost.

Craft

After getting your new hedgehog friend safely home, you can come into the visitor centre to make your own. Collect a craft pack and create your own prickly pal to take on your future adventures through the forest.

This engaging trail and craft is available from our visitor centre reception and costs £3 per child.

Upcoming exhibition

If you want to learn more about wildlife on the estate and how we survey it, then visit our new Citizen Science exhibition. It opens on Saturday 30 March and runs until February 2020.

Planning your visit

Ashridge Estate is a family-friendly place. Our trail footpath is accessible for pushchairs, although it may be a little muddy. Zip up your raincoat and pull on your wellies, so you are prepared to splash about in any puddles that are around. Once you've finished, grab a hot drink and a tasty snack in the Brownlow Café.
