Horse riding at Ashridge

An autumnal ride at Ashridge Herts

Ashridge is a great place to ride your horse. With over 30 miles of public and permissive bridleways, there are plenty of places to explore on a ride.

Find your way

We also have a permitted bridleway network covering a further 20 miles of paths. We have created a waterproof pocket-sized riding map which shows all of the bridleways at Ashridge. Be sure to stop by the Visitor Centre Shop during your next visit to pick up a copy.

Permits and day passes

If you would like more information about horse riding or would like to ride on our permitted bridleway network, please contact our visitor centre.on 01442851227. Here you can obtain an annual permit or a day pass. These are priced at £68 and £8 respectively with discounts for juniors. The cost of an annual permit drops to half price at the beginning of December.

Permit holders also receive a newsletter and are invited to join a couple of guided rides each year. If you would like to bring a horse box or trailer to the estate, please park on surfaced carparks to avoid damage to the ground.

Riding responsibly

Ashridge is enjoyed by many visitors. To ensure everyone has an enjoyable visit, please use only the designated bridleways and do not allow your horse to gallop anywhere on the estate. When riding on permitted bridleways, your permit must be displayed at all times.
