May half term at Ashridge
Unfortunately this event has been cancelled. Check again in 2021 for our next May half term trail. As you follow our May half term trail, imagine yourself stepping back in time. Discover the history of Ashridge through the ages, from Mon 25 – Fri 29 May, 10am-4pm, learning about how people have used the land here over the years.
From before the Iron Age to the present day, people have used the land at Ashridge for farming, fuel and leisure. By following our children’s trail, you and the kids will learn about the varied lives of the people who called Ashridge home before us.
You can purchase your trail handout at the visitor centre for £3 anytime between 10am and 4pm from Mon 25 and Fri 29 May. Take it with you, answer the questions along the way and return to the visitor centre afterwards for a craft activity.
Plan the rest of your visit
There’s plenty to do at Ashridge to fill your day. Come along to the visitor centre to find a route for a gentle walk, or something a little longer if you’re feeling energetic! Then head into our shop to browse a selection of children’s toys, games and snacks.
If you’re planning to stay for lunch, you can either visit the Brownlow Café that serves drinks, cakes and hot and cold food, or, bring a picnic to enjoy in Meadleys Meadow or on Monument Green. If the weather’s good, you can burn off lunch by climbing the 33-metre-tall Bridgewater Monument.
We have baby change facilities, low sinks and buggy accessible paths to make Ashridge as welcoming as possible to family groups. If you need any information during your visit, simply come to the visitor centre and talk to one of our staff members at the reception desk who’ll be able to help.
