Gloucestershire

The Ebworth Centre
The National Trust, The Camp, near Stroud, Gloucestershire. GL6 7ES
01452 810058 heartofthecotswolds@nationaltrust.org.uk

Ranger Matt Stanway looks after the National Trust’s Fine Farm Produce Award winning herd of Belted Galloway cattle, moving them between Cotswold sites such as Crickley Hill, the Ebworth Estate and Bibury. The herd feeds on herb-rich grasslands, while providing conservation grazing which encourages wildflowers, butterflies and birds on sites which are difficult to manage any other way.

The herd is also certified Pasture-fed, meaning that the animals eat only grass and forage crops their entire life. Food produced this way is much tastier and healthier for humans to eat than meat from animals fed grain. A limited amount of beef boxes with an assortment of different cuts including: mince, stewing meat, steaks and joints are available to order from the Ebworth Estate. £60 for a 5kg box, £110 for a 10kg box.

School friends James Twine and Luke Hasell run Court Farm and Herons Green Farm in the Chew Valley. They share a passion for producing quality organic beef. Their South Devon and Aberdeen Angus cattle roam lush pastures grazing on organic rich clover and one of Jim’s herds was introduced to graze Leigh Woods in Bristol in September 2009. The beef is hung for three weeks, so it produces great tasting tender meat.
