Clearing of a Historic Park and Greenhouse near Kromeriz

The working holiday: Participants will be working on CNT’s pilot project – clearing parkland around the chapel and mausoleum linked to the fascinating story of Marie Ebner Eschenbach, one of the most remarkable literary personalities of the 19th century. This Czech novelist and short story writer was known at the time for her psychological novels written in German, but following the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, her work has been largely forgotten. The CNT now aims to draw attention to her legacy and you will be helping to restore the surrounding parkland and the remains of a 19th century greenhouse that the CNT plans to convert into its visitor and volunteer facility in the next few years.

The site is situated near Kromeriz and its beautiful domed chapel is built in the Classicist style – a distinct piece of architecture offering splendid views of the rolling landscape. You’ll have plenty of time to explore Kromeriz and the CNT will arrange tours of its UNESCO-listed gardens, chateau and prestigious art gallery.  Outings to other nearby towns can also be organised.

Accommodation: Full board in a newly-opened hostel in Kromeriz’s main square.  The hostel has wi-fi and a pleasant café.  Breakfast and dinner will be served in the café; lunches will be brought to the work site.
