Reasons to thank you at Christmas

This Christmas, we'd like to say a massive thank you for all you've done. From raising hundreds of thousands of pounds to help save nature and wildlife, to keeping places spick and span for everyone to enjoy, we truly appreciate all your hard work.

It's that time of year again for us to celebrate all you’ve done. For us, for beauty and for nature – for ever, for everyone.

To our volunteers and staff

We’ll start with volunteers and staff, without whom we wouldn’t last. Let’s note down the things you do, like telling visitors the history of what’s what and who’s who. You do a great job of protecting animals all around – and just one of the 500 volunteer roles are the bus and buggy drivers, who take people through the grounds.

To all the volunteers who help make Countryfile Live better year on year, thank you because without you, we wouldn't be here. You bring a sense of triumph with every flower that grows – your love of culture, history and beauty truly shows.

To our members

And amazing members – nearly 6 million of you – your gift shouldn’t be overlooked. For every scone, scarf and secluded getaway, you contribute to improving the coast, countryside and quirky urban hideaways. On behalf of every tree, object and river, we say thank you for every endeavour.

For your commitment to conservation

When an object or place needs looking after, our specialists work hard to bring the magic together. You open the doors to history and help us uncover the mysteries. From taking care of historic dolls houses to keeping the grandfather clocks ticking – under your watch, nothing goes missing. Conservation means that 780 miles of coastline is taken care of too, and those beach cleans wouldn’t have taken off without you.

Thank you

We're overwhelmed by your support for our Marsden Moor appeal, which has now raised over £100,000. Our rangers and volunteers wanted to say a special thank you and let you know how we're using your donations to restore this special place.

For giving, time and time again

Keeping places going relies on donations, and you’ve been sure to give with no hesitation. You raised over £100,000 to put out the fires on Marsden Moor, so this precious landscape has a chance to endure.

Fundraising, too, can help tremendously. What you raise goes towards the homes of baby seals, havens for hares and colourful places for the humble bumble bee. You help our woodlands to breathe. In fact, we look after 12 million trees. Making meadows with you is done with ease to restore 1,000 hectares of meadow land for the bugs and the bees.

How your donations help

  • In 2019, you generously gave over £100,000 to help the restoration of Marsden Moor following a fire
  • Your donations to our Coast appeal will help us protect 35 miles of coastal habitat and footpaths
  • Your donations have helped us win £5.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund for key projects

For the joy wildlife brings

And on that note, wildlife must be thanked. To be frank, there’s nothing quite like spotting a deer or noticing a red squirrel over there and over here. So thank you wildlife, for being the most unique source of wonder to bring colour to our lives – and thank you to everyone for helping it to thrive. All 18 species of UK bats – and increasing numbers of red squirrels – make themselves at home in carefully cared for habitats.

For the environment around us

We thank the environment, because the thrill of nature is unbeatable. What a treat our natural playground can give us all. Presenting places we care for in every form, from red ivy adorning all surfaces it touches to the rush of a blustery day in woodlands. Thank you for improving our wellbeing and for giving us the space that we're all seeking.

For inspiring art and culture

Thank you to art and culture, for making our lives so much richer. You bring history to life and help us imagine historical characters with vigour. From perusing prized possessions of Dutch Masters at Petworth to exploring the decorative natural world of William Morris, thousands of you joined us to celebrate our shared culture.

Happy 10th birthday, Trust New Art, and thanks for each event and exhibition. You showcase the heart of our vision: to kickstart creative ideas in the most unexpected of places, and maybe put some smiles on visitors’ faces.

To the shoppers and holiday goers

And lastly but very much not the least, we’d like to thank you for buying those gifts, books and breaks to the beach. When you enjoy your favourite places, or share the joy of nature with those you love through presents, you help our nature, beauty and history to have a long-lasting presence.

So, thank you. For all of the above and the future actions you might take. We’ll be back to thank you again, make no mistake.
