Take part in the Big Butterfly Count

Common Blue Butterfly

Spend 15 minutes in a sunny spot in one of our special places and help us count butterflies and moths during the Big Butterfly Count from 17 July to 9 August 2020.

Launched in 2010 the Butterfly Conservation's Big Butterfly Count has rapidly become the world's biggest survey of butterflies. Over 113,500 citizen scientists took part in 2019, submitting 116,009 counts of butterflies and day-flying moths from across the UK.

You can take part simply by counting butterflies for 15 minutes during bright (preferably sunny) weather during the Big Butterfly Count.

Download the Big Butterfly Count Sheet from the Butterfly Conservation website here.

You can send in your sightings to the Big Butterfly Count website or using the free Big Butterfly Count smartphone apps available for iOS and Android.

It’s a great way to get close to nature and the records you sent will provide valuable information on the health of our environment.
