Autumn in the garden at Fenton House

Ripening fruit on the apple trees in the historic orchard at Fenton Houise

Autumn in the garden is full of the sights and scents of our glorious apple harvest, and the last remaining colour in our borders puts on a spectacular final show.

Throughout September, spend time in the historic orchard, as the grass is cut back and the apples ripen on the trees. The 32 different varieties of heritage applies all mature at different times, and you will find a small selection to purchase and sample, too.

On the first weekend of October, we celebrate our apple harvest and urban orchard with our annual Apple Weekend. There will be apple tastings and juices to buy, as well as childrens' story-telling and activities, and artisan food and drink for sale.

As October progresses and autumn draws in, our formal lawn border puts on a final display of colour - hot, autumnal shades and contrasting blues. Our new avenue of cherry trees will turn amazing shades of fiery reds and oranges, too.
