January and February at Greyfriars
Discover whats happening behind closed doors in January at Greyfriars House and Garden ahead of reopening in February 2016
Throughout January our conservation team will be busy giving Greyfriars a deep clean. Every room will be cleaned top to bottom from buffing and waxing any heavy foot fall areas on the floors to repairing carpets, to making sure our chinaware is looking spick and span.
This year alongside the general clean our hall stone floor is having some repair work done to troublesome areas. The areas are where tiles are loose, grouting is none existing, stains and the top surface of some of the tiles has worn away.
In the garden the snowdrops have started to pop up and the trees and bushes will be pruned. Our lawn will be given some tlc with some extra turf going down in some areas and any leaves swept up, so that for the start of the new season the place is looking ready to welcome our visitors.
2016 is an important year for Greyfriars, as its our 50th anniversary under the car of the National Trust and we are putting lots of extras on to celebrate. To start the year we have our brand new guide book coming out and our new exhibition room opening in the spring, with its first exhibition.
