You’ll find Greyfriars Apartment just off the courtyard at Greyfriars House – a late-medieval merchant's house with a walled garden, open to visitors from Tuesday to Saturday. Worcester is a cathedral and university city on the banks of the River Severn.

This special building has a long and varied history but most recently was the home of sibings Elsie and Matley Moore, members of the Worcestershire Archaeological Society. They helped save it from demolition in the 1940s and spent 40 years bringing it back to life, using salvageable historic fabric and other found items at a time when Britain was demolishing much of its heritage. The house is filled with interesting objects and the eclectic interiors are a visual feast.

The apartment itself is where Elsie lived, and we have preserved her many alterations and personal touches. The highlight is the bedroom, with timber lining the walls, ceiling and floor, and an intricately hand-carved chandelier.

It has its own courtyard, and you can wander the public garden at any time – don’t miss an evening relaxing there when day visitors have gone home. In this walled garden you'll find planters made from chimney pots and old bricks in the gazebo, materials recycled from a row of workers’ houses that once stood here. You can book a tour of the main house to learn more about its 500 years of history.

Thanks to Greyfriars’ city location, it’s easy to reach by train and the modern high street is nearby. There are other National Trust places to visit within driving distance, such as Hanbury Hall and Croome, where you’ll have free entry during your stay.
