A passion for learning outdoors is at the heart of the learning offer at Hardy’s Birthplace and Thorncombe Woods. Children will get the opportunity to walk in the woods that inspired much of the writing of Thomas Hardy.

Key Stage 2: Be a Famous Writer for a Day

Venue: Hardy’s Cottage & Thorncombe Woods.

Duration: Full day.

Price per child: £4 + VAT with Education Group Membership, or £6 + VAT without.

Curriculum: Literacy, English, History & Experiential learning.

Much of the inspiration for the novels and poems of Thomas Hardy was drawn from a childhood where he was free to roam in woodland, heath, holloway and water meadow near his home. Children will experience daily life in the home of the young Thomas Hardy, and walk in his footsteps through his beloved Thorncombe woods.

Using objects, illustration and games pupils will gain ideas and inspiration to create a poem of their own.
