The incredible setting of this cottage will ensure you get sand between your toes, perched as it is on the edge of Hemmick Beach with unparalleled views of the sea and beyond, looking across to Dodman Point, the highest point in South Cornwall. The cottage is situated just a stone’s throw from a sandy beach perfect for children, with plenty of rock pools at low tide.

To get to Hemmick you’ll drive down a steep and narrow lane with breath-taking views of the coast, with this small and simple cottage nestling round a bend. Once you’re through the door, there’s everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay, with a well equipped kitchen and the multi-fuel stove for cosy evenings in. Outside there’s a table and chairs in the garden for alfresco dining, with the sea lapping the shore just beyond. Even though this small cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms (with beach views) today, back in 1881 it housed Simon Liddicoat, the local blacksmith, along with his wife Mary and their six children.

Walkers will adore being right on the South West Coast Path as soon as you open the door, and walking in one direction takes you up to Dodman Point, along to Vault beach and on to the pretty harbour village of Gorran Haven with its pubs and shops. Head the other way and you’ll find a network of footpaths to explore on the Roseland. This remote scenic location is particularly popular in the summer months with locals and visitors. The lanes and beach can become busy.

Walk up Dodman point and take a break from the hustle and bustle. It’s a great space for bird watching and getting back to nature. Under your feet are centuries of archaeological features on this dramatic headland. Visit nearby Heligan Gardens or drop down into the bustling harbour town of Mevagissey. For more days out, travel inland to the National Trust properties of Trerice, an Elizabethan Manor, and Lanhydrock with its garden, parkland, house and cycle trail.
