Lion Lodge is a pretty, Grade II-listed gatehouse at the entrance to the Newark Park Estate, in the green hills overlooking the valley of the River Severn. The lodge was built around 1794, likely reflecting the gothic style of the main house at Newark Park, a Tudor hunting lodge embellished over the years in the fashion of the day. You have free entry to all National Trust places during your stay.
The estate sits on top of the Cotswold escarpment where views of the Ozleworth valley and the Mendip Hills unfold. You’ll find miles of walks taking in the main house, three levels of gardens, the woodlands and a mosaic of habitats. There's a natural play area, tea pavilion and second-hand bookshop. A nature reserve and the footpath for the Cotswold Way are nearby. Further afield, the Roman market town of Cirencester is a 20-minute drive away. Discover the town’s historic inns and independent shops.
You'll also find Newark Lower Lodge (sleeps six) on the Newark Park Estate, and both cottages can be booked together.
