About Great Langdale Campsite

With the towering Langdale Pikes looming above it, Great Langdale Campsite is a particularly dramatic spot to pitch up for a holiday in the outdoors. This award-winning site offers a wide selection of grassy pitches suitable for families and friends, as well as a collection of wooden camping pods.

This well-equipped site boasts two newly upgraded toilet and shower blocks, washing-up areas, a laundry and drying room. There is one electric car charging point.

Ideally located for walkers keen to explore the Lake District, we also offer an orienteering course around the site. For those better suited to cycling, bring your bike and hit the trails.

Pitches: Pitches are allocated on arrival.

Booking more than one tent: The maximum number of adults allowed in any party is four. This maximum applies whether you book together or separately. 

Group bookings: Please complete the group bookings enquiry form you'll find towards the bottom of this page.

Season dates: The site is open all year, but closed 23 - 27 December 2024.

Arriving by car: From Ambleside, follow the A593 road. At Skelwith Bridge, turn right onto the B5343. The campsite is approximately 6 miles down the road, on the left-hand side, a few hundred yards after you pass the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and Sticklebarn pub. If you reach the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel you've gone too far.

Arriving by public transport: Trains to the Lake District terminate at Windermere railway station. From Windermere take the 505 or 599 bus to Ambleside, and from Ambleside you can pick up the 516 Langdale Rambler. For timetable information, call 0871 200 22 33 or visit Traveline or Cumbria County Council.

Hiking/cycling between campsites: There are numerous walks and cycle routes between our campsites. Plan your route with OS map OL7 (English lakes, South-eastern area for Low Wray / Great Langdale) and OS map OL6 (English lakes, South-western area for Great Langdale / Wasdale). You can also use Harveys BMC 1:40,000 map, which shows all our campsites on one map.

Car free: We offer a car-free discount if you arrive at Great Langdale Campsite on foot, by bike or by bus. Ask for details at reception when you arrive.

EV charging: There is one electric car charging point.

WiFi and phone signal: There is no WiFi on site and no mobile phone coverage. However, the local pubs have WiFi and there is some mobile phone signal in the fells and further down the valley. There is also a payphone available on site next to reception.

Campervans and Motorhomes 

We have 13 hardstanding pitches with electric hook up. We also have space for a few campervans without electric hook up, allocated on a 'first-come-first-served' basis.

Group bookings 

Learning to be confident in the outdoors can set a child up for a life of adventure. We welcome group bookings from schools and Duke of Edinburgh Award groups and other organised parties. Our best pitches for groups are found at Great Langdale and Hoathwaite. Please complete the booking enquiry form below.
