With its latticed arched windows and ivy-clad doorway, Newark Lower Lodge makes for an impressive holiday stay. It was built in 1790 as part of the Newark Park estate and boasts views over the parklands. Inside it’s a traditional affair with classic furnishings, two log burners and a pretty formal dining room. The private rear garden is enclosed, with a raised lawn and outdoor dining furniture.

The Newark Park estate sits on top of the Cotswold escarpment where views of the Ozleworth valley and the Mendip Hills unfold. You’ll find miles of walks past the main house, gardens and through the woodlands. There’s also a nature reserve just behind the cottage and the footpath for Cotswold Way is nearby.

Further afield, drive just 20 miles from the cottage and you’ll arrive in the Roman market town of Cirencester. Discover the town’s historic inns, and spend an hour or two hunting for gifts in Cirencester’s independent boutiques.
