Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about Castle Ward Caravan Park.

Where is the nearest food shop?

The nearest grocery store can be found in Strangford Village which is only half a mile from the site.

Strangford Village is a 5 minute drive away and offers two small grocery stores, one with a Post Office. The nearest large supermarket is in Downpatrick (15 - 20 minute drive) on the far edge of town.

Where is the nearest pub/restaurant?

There are two country pubs, one with a restaurant area within a two-mile radius of the site. Pubs on the A25 can be reached on foot from the campsite (approx 20 minute walk along a narrow footpath, but please note this isn’t a foot path the whole way and you will have to cross the main road to reach the connection footpath (torch required at night), or it's a five minute drive.

Downpatrick also offer extensive choices for eating out.

Where is the nearest bank?

The nearest banks with cash machines are in Downpatrick. There is a cash machine (which may charge) in the shops in Strangford. There is also a cash machine out on the main road near the barber.

Do you take bookings?

Yes, you can book online.

Do you accept dogs?

Castle Ward is a dog-friendly campsite and all well-behaved dogs are welcome at no additional charge. They must be kept on a lead at all times and exercised away from other campers. Please pick up after your dogs right away.

Do you hire freeze packs?

No

Do you exchange gas cylinders?

No however a shop in Strangford will be able to do this.

Where are some good walks/cycle trails for families?

There are 4 trails each with different lengths in Castle Ward Estate, which are suitable for families walking and cycling. We have maps and guidebooks in the caravan park office and our staff are very happy to advise on local routes.

Where is the nearest town or village?

Castle Ward is approximately 2 miles from Strangford Village and approximately 8 miles from Downpatrick. Downpatrick is the larger town and has much to offer in terms of shopping and eating out. It boasts a cinema, leisure centre, kids indoor play centre and a museum (Down County Museum). Strangford is a picturesque village on the shore of Strangford Lough that offers family friendly pubs and quaint shops.

Where is the nearest bus stop?

There is road side bus stop at the entrance to the main estate to Castle Ward or in Strangford village.

Do you accept trailer tents/caravans/campervans?

You can bring your tents (there is no electrical hook up for tents) and Caravan/Campervans with electrical and water hook up (please note that there is a central chemical waste disposal facility and drainage area for caravans/campervans). We can accommodate trailer tents but they have to be manhandled on to the pitch.

Do you have laundry facilities?

A laundry and small drying room are available on site. Machines are token operated - Tokens for the laundry machines are available for purchase in the caravan park office. (£3 per wash/£4 per dry)

What places are there to visit nearby?

We have many NI properties within easy driving distance, such as Mourlough Nature Reserve, Mourne Mountains Rowallane Gardens and Mount Stewart. There are countless other attractions nearby.

Do you take credit card payments?

Yes, we accept most credit and debit cards (with the exception of American Express).

Are you open all year round?

We are open all year except 24th, 25th and 26th December.

I am staying in a pod, what do I need to bring?

Think of the pod as a replacement for your tent. You will need everything you would bring for your tent, apart from the tent itself.

Can I have a fire or barbecue?

We don't allow fires, but you are welcome to use a barbecue as long as it is above ground.

Can under 18s stay at the site?

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

How do I pay for the showers?

Showers are free to use.

Can I park my car by my tent?

Cars must not park directly on the main camping green, but may park along the edge of the green length-wise with two wheels on the grass and two wheels on the gravel path. This is to protect our grass. Additional cars must be booked prior to arrival.
