Once home to the Coastguards, now a beachside apartment with accessible facilities.
Nightjar is a ground-floor apartment at the Coastguard Cottages on Dunwich Heath. The apartment enjoys wonderful views across the heathland nature reserve and beyond. This open-plan, single-level apartment offers a beachside retreat with the golden sand dunes of Minsmere just below.
Wake up early and go for a stroll, across the colourful heathland and through surrounding woodland. After a hike, treat yourself in the neighbouring tea room and gift shop or visit the pub and cafes in Dunwich village.
Discover more of the local area and visit the cathedral cities of Cambridge and Norwich. Both are just over an hour’s drive from the cottage and offer a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants.
There are three holiday apartments in these former coastguard cottages, which can be booked together for a group stay: Nightjar (sleeps two) is on the ground floor, and Stonechat (sleeps two) and Woodlark (sleeps four) are on the first floor. Another cottage, Bridge Farm Cottage (sleeps four), is just a 10-minute drive away near Dunwich village.
Ground floor layout
An open plan room with kitchen/dining/sitting/sleeping area (1 twin, which can be a 6’ double bed on request) and separate shower room with lavatory.
Outdoor space
Small courtyard with outdoor dining furniture for the sole use of Nightjar guests. Staff may occasionally pass through between 10am and 5pm to access external stores.

Heating: Electric radiators, which guests can regulate.
Parking: Designated parking for one car.
Wi-Fi: We provide free Wi-Fi access which is supplied by BT. Please note intermittent connection problems can occur and line speeds can vary as can coverage within the building. The connection is unlikely to be suitable for gaming or streaming.
Please note: Nightjar is one of three holiday apartments in a converted former coastguard cottage complex that also includes private accommodation, a café, and a visitor centre. Although the apartment is soundproofed, some noise from neighbours may be audible. Nightjar is not a standalone property.
Offers: Holiday cottage guests have free entry to all National Trust properties during the period of their stay. Full details in the confirmation email upon booking.
