Operation Hillside Appeal

RAF staff making maps in the drawing room

Help us reveal the secrets of Hughenden’s Second World War story.

During the Second World War Hughenden was home to a secret map-making base, code-named Hillside. The current exhibition in the basement tells this story, but it’s not very accessible, is cramped, and displayed in unsuitable spaces. With new access to a suite of rooms in the west wing of the Manor we’re hoping to bring the Operation Hillside story home. A new reimagined exhibition will place the Operation Hillside story directly in rooms that were used as drawing offices during the war. It will shed light on how the secret map-making operations taking place at Hughenden helped shape the outcome of the war, and for the first time it will be fully accessible to all visitors.

Your donations will help us with the vital conservation work needed to restore these rooms and the development of our new exhibition.

Or you can buy a ticket for our summer raffle, not only will you get a chance to win a great prize the funds raised go directly to the place where your tickets are purchased.
