Whatever the weather

Come rain or shine, frost or fog, there’s plenty to see at Hughenden on a winter’s day from wildlife to spot and gardens to explore, to woodland walks and rambling hikes. Don’t let the weather keep you indoors. Brave the elements and see nature up close, transformed by the season’s extremes.
Welly walks
Wrap up warm for a winter family adventure and explore the gardens and parkland around Hughenden.
Pull on your wellies and splash around the puddles. Enjoy the fresh air and go wild in the woods. Then round off the day with a trip to the Stableyard café for a warming treat.
Have a great day out, whatever the weather.
Winter landscape
The landscape takes on a dramatic form in winter and with open parkland, rolling hills and beech woodlands there are beautiful walks through unspoilt Chilterns countryside to enjoy.
Healthy @ Hughenden
Why not take on our health kick challenge to get the New Year off on the right foot?
Start the month with our Tree Walk. It’s a gentle 20 minute stroll through the formal gardens and pleasure grounds that takes in 10 historical trees at Hughenden.
There are then four waymarked woodland walks for you to take on over the challenge, ranging from the 1 mile Woodcock Wood to the 1.5 mile German Forest walk.
End the challenge with our longest walk. The Boundary Walk takes in 4 miles of beautiful countryside around the Hughenden estate.
And as you get fit and explore the landscape you’ll be helping us to take care of the special places in our care here, for ever, for everyone.

Why bad weather is good
At this time of year, we need to get outside, whatever the weather. Breathe lungfuls of cold fresh air, stomp our pale cheeks rosy and gaze at the changing face of nature at the beautiful places on our doorstep in Buckinghamshire.
