A Beginner's Guide to the Night Sky at Malham Tarn

Stargazers looking at the night sky

This is the perfect place to view the stars on a clear night, so come and learn about the night sky with one our Rangers.

Be amazed at the night sky; view our galaxy, called the Milky Way; also look out for the brightest stars in the night sky – is it a star, or is it a planet?  We will give you a beginner’s guide to identifying some of the constellations - see if you can make out the stars that show the outlines of some of the easier ones.

About the event
This event is an introduction to stargazing and constellations at Malham Tarn led by our Rangers.

Malham Tarn is a great place to visit on a clear night as it is based on higher ground well away from any towns or cities and so there is very little light pollution.

This event includes a night sky walk as well as a presentation and quiz in the Orchid House, so if the weather is bad and we can't see many stars there will still be things for you to do.
