The route follows the beck along gravel and flagged paths through fields, and then through the woodland on rough and rocky tracks.

Start:
Malham car park, grid ref: SD890660

From the car park walk into the village, crossing the beck to the right of Malham Smithy.

Turn right and follow the beck away from the village, along a well-made gravel pathway.

Take the time to have a wander around the village while you are here, making sure you also have time to see the spectacular Malham Cove.

Turn left at the signpost to Janet's Foss and follow this stone-flagged path, with the beck to your right.
The woodland
The woods have the glorious smell of garlic in the spring as the ransoms come into flower.

On entering the National Trust woodland leading up to Janet's Foss waterfall, the ground becomes very uneven and rocky - watch your step!
The waterfall
Legend tells us that Janet, or Jennett, Queen of the Fairies, lived behind the waterfall and it remains a special place today.

From the waterfall, return the way you came.
