1
Park at Watersinks car park and follow the grassy path north, away from the road, along the Pennine Way.
Strolling along
Malham Tarn is a glorious place to spend a few hours. Enjoy wandering leisurely along the grassy tracks, or pause to admire the view and listen to the birds.
2
When you reach a gate and a track, go through the gate and continue on the track along the shores of Malham Tarn.
Malham Tarn
Malham Tarn was formed around 10,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age. It is home to some very special plants, insects, birds and animals, including two otters that have recently moved in. The eastern shores of the Tarn are a beautiful spot for a picnic.
3
Continue through the woods and around the back of Tarn House, now leased to the Field Studies Council. Pause at our small exhibition about Malham Tarn's National Nature Reserve.
Orchid House
The Orchid House used to be the greenhouse for growing orchids at Tarn House. We have recently renovated it as an indoor classroom area for the school groups that come to visit us. We have also included an exhibition area to tell you a bit more about the beautiful nature reserve.
4
When you reach this point, turn around and retrace your steps to the car park.
