It’s all for a good reason

Lord Curzon's bedroom at Montacute House

A new carpet is being laid in Lord Curzon’s bedroom, which unfortunately means it will have to be closed whilst all the furniture is removed and stored in the Library.

The old carpet in Lord Curzon’s bedroom is getting very worn and tired with all the feet that pass over it every day.  A new, hardwearing carpet is being laid to protect the floor boards underneath.  It is by no means a small task, as all the furniture will have to be removed and temporarily stored in the Library.  This includes dismantling the large oak tester bed.  It dates to approximately 1900, and has sixteen carved panels in its ceiling and twelve in the headboard.

The rooms will be reopened as soon as possible, but apologies for any inconvenience caused by their closure.
