Volunteer at our special place

Volunteers with object and paper records

Help us to make every visit to Mr Straw's House memorable for our visitors. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the team.

A new year brings a new start, and often we make resolutions to do something fresh and exciting.

This year, why not consider volunteering with us? Learn new skills, make new friends and of course you are helping the Trust to look after Mr Straw’s House - a very special place right on your doorstep!

We have a range of volunteer roles, from behind the scenes working with the collections to being outdoors in the fresh air helping to maintain the gardens.

" I love history and telling people bits of history that I have learnt so this is perfect for me. Also I get to meet people from all around the country."
- Dale

Of course we are known for our friendly and knowledgeable welcome and tour guides, and there are also roles in the shop and reception area, and in working with schools and other groups.

So, if you have skills in gardening, retail, computers, local history, education, or if you love talking to new people and sharing stories, we’d love to hear from you!

Signing up is easy, simply visit the National Trust website at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/  and click onto the ‘Join and Get Involved’ page.

There you will find a list of current vacancies at each property – search for Mr Straw’s House and see what we have on offer.

Or if you prefer, simply contact us direct - we love to talk to people and find out what their skills are. You will be joining a friendly and enthusiastic team, who are passionate about the work of the Trust and about bringing Mr Straw’s House to life for visitors.

There are perks to volunteering – you will qualify for free entry to National Trust properties after you have been volunteering with us for 50 hours.

There are social gatherings too, outings to other National Trust properties, and discounts in our shops and cafés. And of course, it’s a great way to meet new people.

Currently we are looking for volunteers to help in the gardens, tour and welcome guides, education and outreach volunteers and walk leaders.

So why not make 2019 the year that you join our team here at Mr Straw’s – we’d love to hear from you!

" I really enjoy meeting people and being able to help visitors have a nice visit - the whole social aspect really. And it's such a contrast to my paid job"
- Lucy
