Car park improvements at Rhossili
We’ve made improvements to the car park at Rhossili, to make it work better for you as a visitor and to provide a more fitting welcome to this iconic location.
Within the car park itself we’ve made considerable improvements to the car park surface, added an electric vehicle charging point and introduced new cycle racks, without forgetting all the necessary drainage work that needed to take place, we get a lot of rain on Gower!
What did we do?
As part of the project, we re-instated some of the historic boundaries that once stood here. This area on Gower is well known for the use of the medieval strip field farming system. You can still see evidence of this type of farming system on the Vile (the area adjacent to the car park) one of very few places in the UK that you can still see this today.
When did the work take place?
We improved the car park during the 2017 season.
What does it look like now?
We hope that the new car park incorporates sympathetic design measures to make sure it doesn't look too out of place and fits in seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
How was it made possible?
This project has been made possible due to your support when you visit Rhossili and part funded by the Welsh Government through Visit Wales Tourism Investment Support Scheme.
Funds raised from car park charges go back into looking after this iconic location and our other places on Gower, making sure the beaches look at their best, the footpaths are well maintained as well as making these places accessible for everyone to visit and enjoy what Rhossili and Gower have to offer.
How do I find out more about our plans for this project?
If you’d like to know more about the detail of the project, you can find links here to the Landscape Drawing which has the full plan for the car park, and the Design & Access Statement which gives full context for the project. These documents and further information are also available to be viewed in the Visitor Centre at Rhossili.
