Whortleberry jam (or 'urt)
This is the local name for the fruit of the bilberry, which grows wild on the West Country moors. It was collected in huge quantities in days gone by, both as a food and as a source of blue dye for the textile industry.
Known by many regional names including bilberry, whinberry and blueberry, the fruit makes delicious pies and of course, jam.
Our local offer of Teoni Cookies, Hunts Cider and Dartmoor Brewery are all here as well - happy to support our local heroes.
