What to expect from your visit

We have had to make some changes to our opening times and what we can offer due to the current situation. We’ve summarised what is open and what measures we have put in place to keep everyone safe.

Updated 30/07/2021

Car parking

The car park is open as usual and there is no need to pre-book tickets. Please pay for you parking at the parking booth as usual when it is open. We would perfer card payments at the moment, so please have your membership card or credit/debit card ready when you arrive.

If you arrive when the car parking booth is closed, you can pay for your parking using the Pay by Phone app our location code is 803459 for cars and 803461 for mobile homes. Parking is valid for the rest of the day from when you pay. Please remember the car park closes each day at 7pm.

Additional Parking

We may need to use our additional parking field at busy times over the summer. It is 1.5 miles from the main entrance to the site close to South Foreland Lighthouse.

If you are directed to use the car park by a member of our team, follow the yellow signs towards St Margaret's village keeping a lookout for the large blue flag, which marks the entrance. Please note, although nearer the lighthouse, the car park has excellent access to the cliff top paths and views.

Blue Badge holders and visitors with limited mobility

Although the additional parking field is close to the lighthouse and views, it may not be suitable for some blue badge holders or other visitors with limited mobility. If you arrive at the main gate and have additional access needs, please make the member of staff aware and they will be able to assist you.

Other things to note

Coaches

We are pleased to confirm that our coach park will reopen from Monday 17th May normal parking charges will apply.

Cycling

We welcome and encourage cyclists in the car parks, we have cycle racks near the visitor centre which you can use. Please remember that cycling on the cliff paths isn’t allowed as they are only designated as footpaths and cycling contributes to cliff path erosion.

Keeping safe while walking

In most places the cliff edges are unfenced. Please keep safe by keeping back from the edge at all times and keeping dogs on a lead.

Fire and Barbeques

Fires, barbeques and camping stoves are banned anywhere on site because of the high fire risk and the damage they cause to the landscape.

Camping and overnight stays

Camping anywhere onsite is prohibited. Campervans are welcome during the day but cannot stay past the car park closing time time of 7pm.

Drones

Drone are strictly prohibited anywhere on National Trust land but additionally because of the proximity to the Port of Dover there is a controlled zone air space zone in place. Please see the Port of Dover’s website for more information.
