A Citrus Celebration at Tredegar House
A family with a taste for the finer things in life, the Morgans of Tredegar had a penchant for the exotic and unusual. While Evan Morgan filled the house and gardens with exotic birds and boxing kangaroos, the family also brought a tropical touch to the gardens with pineapple plants, banana trees and citrus in abundance.
This summer we’ll be celebrating the opulence of the Morgan family and their horticultural crown jewels with a Citrus Celebration. The walled gardens will be transformed into a joy for all the senses, with a programme of talks, tours and events help you kick off summer in style.
Experience the sweet and tangy fragrance of dried lemons and limes while walking through a kaleidoscope of orange and yellow hues adorning the flower beds, before stopping off at the tea-room to refresh and refuel with some homemade lemonade and citrusy bakes.
Squeeze the most out of your visit
We’ve pulled together our top picks coming up over the six week celebration.
Immerse yourself in the occasion and explore walled gardens brimming with citrusy colours and scents. Walk beneath a canopy of dried segments and savour the glorious aroma arising from heaps of oranges, lemons and limes adding to the potted citrus cultivated in our Orangery.
Zinnia Zahara, Antirrhinium Sonnet and Dahlia Firago add the finishing touches, painting the herbaceous borders and formal bedding with pops of yellow and orange.
Slurp on an ice cream as you wander the gardens or pop into the Brewhouse tea-room for a refreshing homemade lemonade or orange juice.
Our mouth-watering menu will include carrot and orange soup, citrus pizza, lemon polenta tray bake, gin and lime cake and so much more.
Join a member of our team for an introduction to the walled gardens or head inside the house where the Celebration continues. Find out more about the luxury lifestyle of the Morgan family or take a tour to discover the opulent architecture and interiors.
Talks and tours will be running subject to volunteer availability, please ask our visitor reception team for the day’s programme on your arrival.
Follow the botanical trail through the gardens for a feel of how these historical spaces were once used, as well as a glimpse into the work that goes into taking care of these gardens and tips to take home with you.
