Visiting Uppark with your family

Mother and child filling in quiz trail

Explore our house and grounds all year round with your family at Uppark, with great spaces to run around outside and a house with lots to discover.

Space to stretch your legs

Make a beeline for the South Meadow where families can spread out, set up the perfect picnic and take in the views across the South Downs. We’ve got a couple of toy chests for you to discover too which have bats and balls and other games for you to borrow during your visit.

In the summer you can try your hand at croquet on the lawn by Visitor Reception; just ask the team to borrow the kit.

Perfect for picnics

You're welcome to bring your own food to enjoy as a picnic in the South Meadow and take in the views across the South Downs.  If you fancy something extra then why not pick up snacks, cakes and ice cream to go from the Café and take it out into the gardens to enjoy?

We would suggest the wide glade behind the East Pavilion if you’re looking for some shade.
With a tempting selection of cakes and bakes, sandwiches and drinks in disposable cups, these are perfect to pick up and enjoy on the go or for a picnic with friends and family

There are also some delightful treats in the shop and if you've not got a rug to relax then you can always purchase your own from the shop.

Please do remember to pick up any litter once you've finished and take it home.

Explore the house

Dare you descend into the underground tunnels? Explore the underground tunnels which the servants used to secretly move from the stables to the kitchens and back to the main house. See what life would have been like as a servant for a grand home as well as how the other half lived. Don’t miss our amazing Dolls’ House and imagine who might have played with it.

School holiday fun

We’ve always got family trails on during school holidays. Get the whole family involved in solving the clues or working out the answers. Each holiday trail is different so see if you can complete them all during the year.

You can also pick up one of our 50 Things booklets and see how many you can complete here and what you could do at home.
